InfoComm’s 2016 Adele De Berri Award Goes to Prysm CTO Dr. Roger Hajjar

FAIRFAX, VA — May 2, 2016 — InfoComm International^®, the trade association representing the commercial audiovisual industry worldwide, is pleased to announce that Dr. Roger Hajjar, Chief Technology Officer and Founder of Prysm, has won the 2016 Adele De Berri Pioneers of AV Award. Dr. Hajjar will receive his award in a ceremony preceding the keynote address at InfoComm 2016 in Las Vegas, held June 4-10.

The Adele De Berri Pioneers of AV Award is given annually to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the science of audiovisual experiences. Hajjar developed laser phosphor display (LPD) technology and has registered more than 100 patents in the U.S. and around the world.

“The professional AV industry continues to evolve and excite customers because of technical innovations like laser phosphor display,” said David Labuskes, CTS^®, RCDD, Executive Director and CEO, InfoComm International. “The energy efficiency, scalability and image performance of LPD are just a few of the reasons the technology has found a receptive audience among corporate and other client bases, as well as among AV integration and design firms.”

LPD is a unique display platform that leverages single-wavelength lasers to excite a phosphor screen and create images. It is characterized by wide viewing angles, high contrast ratios and deep blacks, and low heat generation.

Growing up in Lebanon, Hajjar was fascinated by light, specifically disco lights, which inspired him to launch a backyard business selling disco balls made of mirrors taped to Styrofoam orbs. As he got older, Hajjar’s business grew more sophisticated, leveraging light and electricity. When he immigrated to the United States and entered Boston University, his obsession with light remained with him. Today, Hajjar holds a Ph.D, M.S. in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Boston University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Each year, InfoComm International recognizes outstanding AV professionals for their contributions, leadership and commitment to excellence. In 2016, the InfoComm Awards Committee, a panel of volunteers, received nominations from across the AV industry and named winners for the Adele De Berri Pioneers of AV, Mackey Barron Distinguished Achievement, CTS Holder of the Year, Educator of the Year, Women in AV and Young AV Professionals Awards. The Harald Thiel Volunteer of the Year Award is bestowed by InfoComm staff.
